Conventional Fire-Pump Isolation Skid

Purpose

Keep raw sediment and test slurry out of a conventional engine's main pump while retaining the engine as a clean-water source in approved research configurations.

Operating concept

A clean-water inlet from the owner-approved apparatus feeds a physically separated downstream injection skid; check valves, isolation, and a break/containment strategy prevent solids backflow.

Key assemblies

clean-water inlet; double isolation/check arrangement; backflow monitoring; injection connection; pressure relief; drain/containment tray; water-only outlet; owner lockout interface

Operating sequence

obtain equipment-owner approval → connect clean-water path → verify backflow protection → run baseline → enable separate slurry injection → monitor separation → disable injection and flush before disconnect

Instrumentation

intake/discharge pressure; flow; vibration or motor load; bypass state

Safeguards

pressure relief; rated hose/couplings; isolation and depressurization; wear inspection points

Failure modes and mitigations

backflow into pump; overpressure; wrong coupling; operator mode confusion; residual solids at disconnect

Variants

portable skid; apparatus sidecar; fixed training-loop interface; dual- check monitored spool; air-gap tank-fed concept

Validation gates

closed-loop pressure test; leak/coupling review; abrasion trial; fail- safe bypass and purge

Claim boundary

CLAIM BOUNDARY: No certified design, validated recipe, performance guarantee, regulatory approval, or authorization for uncontrolled-fire use is represented.

Unverified concept for qualified research. Not certified equipment, not a validated formula, not fabrication instructions, and not authorization for active-fire use. Individual conventional components are not claimed as separately invented.
