Ember Mop-Up and Penetration Lance

Application and deliveryLocal and prepared materialMop-up researchWater-only bypass relevant
Protected transferWater-only bypassApply streamStop / purgeSCHEMATIC PROCESS ORDER — NOT TO SCALEWater-only comparison and failover retained throughout.

Purpose

Study whether a low-flow slurry stream can reach controlled ember pockets, debris piles, or subsurface test media while retaining water- only capability.

Operating concept

A rigid or semi-rigid lance with side ports or a guarded terminal head delivers a low-flow stream; thermal sensing and depth stops prevent blind insertion beyond the test plan.

Key assemblies

insulated lance; depth stop; side-port head; thermal sensor; flow control; reaction handle; water-only selector; external clearing rod interface

Operating sequence

map controlled hot zone → apply water baseline → insert only to set depth → deliver bounded slurry → monitor temperatures → withdraw and verify cooling → water-purge

Instrumentation

flow and pressure; selected pattern or outlet mode; operator/remote stop

Safeguards

manage reaction force; avoid occupied-area use; provide clearing without hands entering the material path

Failure modes and mitigations

steam/heat exposure; hidden sharp objects; lance clog; unintended spread of embers; false cooling inference

Variants

straight lance; flexible probe; side-port rake head; remote robot lance; transparent laboratory packed-bed probe

Validation gates

water-only pattern baseline; slurry reach/pattern test; clog-and-clear trial; operator human-factors review

Claim boundary

CLAIM BOUNDARY: No certified design, validated recipe, performance guarantee, regulatory approval, or authorization for uncontrolled-fire use is represented.

Unverified concept for qualified research. Not certified equipment, not a validated formula, not fabrication instructions, and not authorization for active-fire use. Individual conventional components are not claimed as separately invented.
